Word on the sand is that Smile is finally going to get an official release.  Okay, another official release.  But this one is the actual recordings from ’67.   I visited three links to get this.  Don’t say I can’t dig. Here’s more:

The Smile Sessions will be issued in three versions: on iTunes; as a two-CD set; and in a box set with four CDs, two vinyl LPs, two vinyl singles and a 60-page book. These recordings will include an approximation of the original Smile album, plus outtakes and studio banter.

I’ve never really given any of the fan attempts an honest listen, but I’ll see if I can dig one up and give it a go just so I’ll have something to compare it to when my Snob friend buys it.
